Juntendo University Graduate School

Umaaki Ishijima

Dr Ushiaki Ishijima
``The ability to move freely'' is one of the important functions that humans have.

We have entered a super-longevity society, and the era of 100-year lifespans is certain to arrive. I think everyone has the hope of being able to continue moving throughout their lives and continue enjoying sports and traveling with family and friends.Unfortunately, in modern society, the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders and diseases increases as we get older, and both men and women over the age of 80 are suffering from some kind of musculoskeletal disease, making it extremely difficult to achieve this goal. Masu.In other words, it is not easy to maintain the function of musculoskeletal organs throughout a person's life.

As orthopedic surgeons, we are expected to contribute to the realization of a society where people can maintain mobility throughout their lives. The next generation of orthopedic surgeons must not only understand the function and importance of musculoskeletal organs, but also have a deep understanding of musculoskeletal diseases and disorders, provide appropriate treatment based on that understanding, and solve and advance unresolved and uncertain problems. Research ability is expected.

At Juntendo, we deeply understand the functions and diseases of musculoskeletal organs such as bones, cartilage, ligaments, and nerves, understand what is known and what is unknown, and then provide the best care at the moment for patients with impaired mobility due to musculoskeletal diseases. We will train orthopedic surgeons who can provide treatment forFurthermore, we will create opportunities for students to understand that there are always limits to current medicine and medical care, and to acquire the knowledge and skills that can contribute to the advancement of medicine. As a result, many young doctors are working in Japan and overseas in both basic and clinical fields, as well as in all aspects of joints (shoulders, elbows, hands, hips, knees, feet), spine, bone and soft tissue tumors, trauma, sports, rheumatism, children, etc. In this area, we aim to develop orthopedic surgeons who can treat everything from normal to abnormal (diseases and disorders) musculoskeletal organs using a wide perspective, extensive knowledge, and advanced techniques.

Young doctors with dreams, please come work with us at Juntendo, where we have a school philosophy of ``Jin'', a philosophy of ``Continuous Progress,'' and a school culture of ``Sanmu-ism.''We look forward to.
